A Teacher’s Desk – An Introduction

I have been thinking for a long time that a picture of a teacher’s desk can offer interesting, nuanced insight into what makes us unique as teachers.

It’s different, yet revealing in ways we do not realize.

We do not spend much time at our desks; rather, we use it as a repository for various, random things: student cooked food from home-economics; formal essays and projects of differing shapes; ludicrous directives from district suits; inspirational quotes; beverages with varying levels of caffeine; random call slips from the office; coping devices/mechanisms; and many other mundane things.

Personally, I have always been interested in the particulars of teachers to help me understand their universality (nod to James Joyce…).

I envision this as a digital coffee table for teachers.  We all can learn from the nuances only our desks, as symbols of our lives as teachers, can offer.
